Make sure the gloves are comfortable with enough padding and support. Other than that, there's not much else to consider.

As a beginner, you should focus on lightweight training gloves in the 10-12 oz range. These gloves are optimal for anyone. If you're more experienced, use 14-16 oz gloves. The following glove sizes are most common:
